Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer | Review + Demo

New year (26), new foundation.

I haven’t purchased new foundations in awhile because well, frankly, I am happy with what I have. I did get a little birthday shopping done and picked this up because I heard so many good things about this new Clinique foundation and I just had to try it.

The main thing I was most interested in this foundation was that it claims to be good for ALL skin types. Yes, that’s right. ALL skin types. Oily, combo, normal, dry, and everything in-between.

This foundation is oil-free, full coverage, and made with a special formula to help conform to your skin. It claims to have 12 hour wear and that it will stay put through heat, sweat, and humidity.

One very interesting thing about this foundation, is the applicator. I was so confused when I saw the doe-foot applicator. But, since this product says it’s a foundation and concealer, I guess the wand fits. I’m not biggest fan of it since it’s not very hygenic applying it directly to your face and then placing it back in the bottle.

The shade I purchased was 6.5 Buttermilk, I got matched at Sephora and honestly, I felt like this was too light and pink, but the other colors seemed to dark. They have 20 shades total but some are very cool and pink-toned. I will say that after the foundation set and my face oxidized it a little, the color seemed to match for the most part.

I don’t know why I look so tan and orange, but I swear I’m not that Jersey Shore-esque.
Th texture of this foundation reminded me of the NARS radiant creamy concealer. It’s a not runny, but it’s also not super thick. Clinique says that a little goes a long way for the foundation and I’m honestly not sure if that’s true. I applied the foundation with little streaks on my face but that didn’t seem like enough so I would swipe it on my face and lie, color my face in and it seemed alright. (I did prime my face before, I always do)

I used my beauty blender to blend it all in:

And finished off the rest of my face for work:

My first impressions of the foundation was that it was very easy to blend and looked pretty natural. I do agree that it is full coverage and it also has a matte finish and I really like that about this product. However, I did feel like the foundation did sink into my pores a little instead of covering them. I have a lot of texture on my skin and so I prime my face to help smooth it out but I just felt like this didn’t smooth my face enough, kind of like that Maybelline commercial with the golf ball.

Instead of smoothing and covering my texture, it kind of just sat on top. Image taken from google.com

Sooo, typically when I do makeup reviews, I take pictures at work throughout the day to show you the wear of the product, but now that I have a new job, I don’t do much activity. At my old job I would walk around, talk to customers, and pretty much be active throughout the day, kind of break a sweat. Now, I’m at a computer not moving all day, so reviews aren’t gonna have the same”wear and tear” effect unfortunately. But anyway, here’s how it held up:

Right when I got in at 8:30. The foundation looks pretty nice and natural, and the color does match.

Here I am at 10:30! Same desk, same me, haha. I’m liking how there’s no oil showing through though! #impressed

Get ready for it, another picture of me at my desk! Weird. It’s around 12 pm and I decided to switch my pose up a bit. I was actually looking at the cafeteria lunch menu in that moment. #tomatobasilsoupnotimpressed

And yours truly, again, at around 4:30. Still no oil!!!

And finally at around 6 pm:

I’m really impressed with the longevity of this foundation, it lasted a whole day with no oil peeking through. This actually makes me wonder, if this was good for my oily skin, how on earth can it work for people who are normal and dry??!? It makes no sense!!

I will say that I’m kind of on-the-fence regarding this foundation since I think it doesn’t hide my pores very well but I do love how natural it looks. I think I am going to keep this foundation and maybe try a new primer because I do love the matte finish and longevity! And this foundation is only $27 which I don’t think is too bad for a Clinique product. I would say this foundation is great for oily skinned girls looking for a natural yet full coverage foundation. Let me know if you have tried it or want to!

Well, are you talking about actual concealer or are you talking about the naked skin foundation? This Clinique foundation has really good coverage and compared to the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation I prefer it over that since its long lasting and keeps me matte!

I have seen so many reviews on this products, seems like a bit of a cult favourite, and I’m so tempted in purchasing – except for the fact i have the hugest of pores, and don’t reeeeeeally want them any more emphasized, especially by layering foundation on top. Great review, loved the information. They staying power does really look tempting – Love the “jersey shore esque” comment. hahaa. – What primer did you use re: pores? Would you suggest a specific Primer? xx

Thanks for your comment! And I used the Smashbox Photo Finish primer (the clear one) cause it usually helps smooth out my skin but for reason t didn’t really work with this foundation, but then again this foundation doesn’t make any “pore-minimizing” claims. I think the next primer I will try with it will be the Benefit Porefessional! I really do love the staying power and the finish of this foundation, you should definitely try it out!

Oh Yes, I’ve heard that’s a great primer, that’s a shame it didn’t work well with the foundation. I’ll definitely have to pick it up, and have a play around. Staying power is super important for us Oily Ladies. hahaa. Thanks again, appreciate the reply. xx
