Life Updates| My New Job! Retail vs. Office

Welp, the cat’s outta the bag.

I got me a new job!

I’m so excited to share this with you guys, I don’t think I’ve really ever shared my personal life with you guys, which comes to no surprise for me at all. I’m a pretty private person and I would call myself “closed-off” when it comes to talking about anything isn’t beauty related on here.

Buuuut, yes. I have a new job! YAY! I can’t stop saying it, haha.

I have worked retail since I was 16 years old, so pretty much 10 years of my life. To be honest, I actually like working retail. Now, I could be saying that because I’m now leaving retail (for once and for all), but I mean, retail is like home for me. Not to sound like Bane from Batman or anything, but I was born into retail, I was molded by it. Retail is what showed me how a job actually works, it is also where I developed my work ethic and helped me get to where I am today. Truth be told, the reason I started looking for a new job was because I had outgrown my position, I was getting bored and I need a change and I also needed to start my marketing career.

Class of 2013! #businessmajor

On April 22, 2016, I will have had my last day in my retail store. It’s sad, but I’m looking forward to my 10 day vacation where I will do absolutely nothing but relax until I have to go back to work.

On May 2, 2016, I will be working my first day in corporate office. I now have a “big girl” job, where I work 8:30-5:30 Monday to Friday and I get the weekends off (halle-freaking-llujah!)

Now, I don’t really like using the term “big girl” job. I don’t think an office job neccessarily deems that you are a big kid (adult) or not. I know plenty of people who kick ass at their job, pay their bills, and can still have a life while working in retail. I guess I would deem an office job as more desireable to others. One of the first questions I got when I told my team I would be leaving is if it was an 8-5 and if I got weekends off. When I responded with yes, I got a lot of, “DAMMMNN YOU’RE LUCKY!”

I do feel lucky and blessed to have been given this opportunity that will help kickstart my career, but I can’t help but think about how I will miss retail. I will miss the camaraderie, the simplicity of just requesting certain days off if I need it, and the fast paced environment of a store. Office is life is so different and I’m going to definitely have some growing pains, but it will be for the best.

This is the new job staring down at me, judging everything I do

I have so many butterflies in my stomach about this new chapter in my life. I feel happy, sad, nervous, scared, I feel so many feelings at once! I’m going to go to my first day of work with my head held high and in a snazzy new outfit! (I’ve never had to buy business casual clothing before so now I have to buy a whole new wardrobe!)

Congrats on your new job!! I to went from retail for 8 years into an office/ corporate environment in NYC. You will have to adjust a lot if your use to the non-stop chaos retail has vs. the laid back sitting on your butt and staring at a screen all day. Weekends off are the best perk, but if you love dealing and helping people I am sure you will miss it. Can’t wait to hear more about your wonderful journey. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Aw thank you! Yes I like being fast paced and always talking to people and I feel like I’m gonna be the chatty Kathy of the office and it’s gonna be so hard for me to like, learn to not socialize! Thanks for the tips!! 💕💕
