I used to think face primers were just a gimmick.
Now, I can’t even imagine doing my foundation routine without my primers. As some of you know, I got the oily skins so I have to prime my face to help control those oils. I’ve gathered up my Smashbox primers to let you guys know what works for me and hopefully these might work for you!
Photo Finish Primer Water –
This was the main product I thought was SUPER gimmicky, and now I can’t live without it. I spray this after I put on my oil-control gel, but before I put on my Photo Finish Primer, and I love the refreshing feel of the mist on my skin. It really helps keep my face fresh before applying my foundation. My favorite part of using it has to be as a setting spray. I LOVE this as a setting spray. It keeps my makeup looking so natural. I have a habit of over-setting my face with powder and I just spray this onto my face afterwards and my makeup looks so refreshed and natural. My makeup does not budge one bit and helps keep my skin hydrated without looking oily.
Photo Finish Foundation Primer –
Since I have oily skin, I am always trying to use mattifying primers to help with my oil, but I find that some mattifying primers just make my foundation cake up after a while, like it makes my face too matte–this is what happened with the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer, it just left this build-up on my nose and it looked like rubber eraser flakes on my face. This primer helps control my oil and helps my makeup look smooth all day, I know it’s not meant for oil-contol, so I use a mattifying gel by First Aid Beauty after my moisturizer to help with that, but I love the flawless complexion I get. I would say this is directed more towards girls with normal skin, but in combination with other products, this is my favorite. I will be giving other primers a try too!
Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer –
My under-eyes be DRY, gurl. I have the worst fine lines and creases under my eyes! It’s seriously so frustrating to deal with. This primer hydrates my under-eyes so much I love it, it also helps with the longevity of my foundation and concealer. This primer also claims to help with fine lines, wrinkes, puffiness, and dark circles for you under-eyes, but I find that those claims just don’t happen for me. The primer does have a pink tone to it, but it disappears when you put it on your skin. My eyes are always so puffy and I don’t notice any de-puffing properties. I only use this for hydration and I love it for that reason. It’s also super lightweight! Hydration and longevity = a win in my book!
