Confessions of a Lash-o-holic: Never Have I Ever…

Alright guys, it’s confession time. When it comes to beauty, I feel well-versed in the subject matter. I love spending hours on here reading everyone’s content and getting information on products. I do it so often that I feel my brain comprehends a good amount of information on the beauty world, but there is one subject within the beauty community that I literally don’t know anything about:

I am so clueless when it comes to brows. And it’s crazy to say this but, never have I ever…gotten my brows done.

This is not a drill. I repeat this is not a drill. This is a state of emergency.

You know those red boxes that have fire extinguishers that say IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BREAK GLASS? Yeah, so since this is an emergency, instead of fire extinguishers I need you guys to break that glass and pull out your brow pencils cause this girl needs help.

Now this all started when I was around 12 and my friend asked me to go get her eyebrows waxed with her. I was like, what!? What the heck, I wanna be cool like you and get mine done too! So I called up the moms and was like, “hey is it okay if I get my eyebrows waxed with Briana?” She flipped out and said hell-to-the-no and long story short, I got like, a 10 minute shpiel on how I was too young to be manipulating my face and I should be natural etc, etc.

Now even though I wasn’t allowed to get my brows waxed, my mom didn’t technically say I couldn’t go (there’s always a way to find loopholes when you’re a kid). So off we went to the salon!

When we got there we were taken into the back room and my friend was instructed to lay down on the salon chair thing and relax. I saw the waxing lady warm up the hot wax and she applied it to Briana’s eyelid area, let it sit for a second, then RIIIIIIPPP!

Now at the end of the whole eyebrow waxing experience, Briana ended up getting part of her skin taken off and the waxer lady just brushed it off like, “oh ain’t no thang! It’ll grow back!” From what I remember, my friend was in a serious amount of pain  and I was pretty much scarred for life.

Fast forward to now, just a 25 year-old girl who has never had her brows done. Now when I say I’ve never had my brows done, I mean that I have never gotten them waxed or threaded, I think those are the only ways to “do” your brows, correct me if I’m wrong. I do own tweezers and I do regularly pluck my brows; I don’t trim them or anything though. When you guys see me in pictures on here or on Instagram, my brows are just natural–there’s no product on them. I’ve tried to fill them in and make them look all fancy, but I end up looking like I have two furry caterpillars on my face.

My eyebrows are not on fleek and I don’t have power brows, and isn’t that all a girl really wants? All a girl really needs? Isn’t that what makes us happy and sets us free? (shoutout to ma girl Christina Aguilera)

This dog’s eyebrows are more on fleek than mine!
My eyebrows don’t really have a shape. I mean, if I had to describe them I would call them parentheses signs. ( (

Me and my brows
Me and my brows
If I try to create a fake arch, or point, I feel like it looks so unnatural. I tried showing you guys what I mean:

I put two small lines on the bottom of brows to help define them more.

Then I do it to the top portion and I try to create and arch
Then I do it to the top portion and I try to create and arch

Then I blend it all, but end up looking like a bushy witch!

See what I mean?
See what I mean?
I just use some dark brown eyeshadow and an eyeliner brush, I know there’s brow pencils and gels and brow mascaras, but I have no idea where to start when it comes to that! I don’t even know what to ask for when I go to a salon!

What I’m trying to achieve is this:

YAS so on fleek! Image taken from
But instead I’m getting this:

So, if you guys could help a sista out and throw some suggestions of your favorite brow products my way and let me know if you prefer waxing or threading (which looks more painful than waxing in my opinion, I see those women in the mall that do it and they hold the string in their teeth and are just sawing at some girls face and I’m like, uh no thanks, I’ll pass). Please let me know! I will be forever grateful!

Thanks for your help and thank you for reading!
♥ Melissa

I have no skills what so ever with the whole brow situation. I tweeze and fill them in with powder and I “pretend” that they look damn good. But seriously I just need to tell you that you made my day, this post have me laughing my ass off!

Hahah I’m so glad someone can relate! I don’t even tweeze half the time and I know some girls look at my brows and are like, “omg they are so hairy!” and I’m over here like “Yeah? Sue me!” I can’t wrap my head around brows! And PS I just checked out your blog! Super cute, I love your minimalist theme! I followed you, keep up the good posts!

LOL!! You have great natural eyebrows! But I do understand where you are coming from because I have never done my brows either and there are so many beautiful arched brows out there. I think we are at an advantage for not having to go regularly to have our brows done;)

I use anastasia as well. I use the brow wiz which has a mechanical pencil on one end and has a spoolie on the other. Always go a shade or two lighter than your natural brow color… that will help them not seem so dark. Also Anastasia says to do more than 1 product, like if you use powder finish with a brow gel otherwise they turn grey. I’ve had that happen so I use the brow wiz and her Dip Brow Pomade and then gel on top. Also don’t put the gel on the inside part of your brow just the outside 3 quarters. I could talk for hours on brows lol
